Dr. Volfson joined the Associates in Urology in 2006, and is one of the few urologists in the Philadelphia area who is fellowship trained in minimally invasive Robotic Surgery, known as 'band-aid surgery' for the size of the incisions, of the prostate, kidney, ureter, and adrenal gland. Dr. Volfson has been chosen as as top doc by Main Line Today in urological surgery.
Ilya A. Volfson M.D. received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Pennsylvania. After completing an additional 1 year of cancer research training at the Wistar Institute in Philadelphia, he matriculated at Albany Medical College. Following his M.D. degree, Dr. Volfson completed 2 years of General Surgery and 4 years of Urology residency at UMDNJ-NJ Medical School. After concluding his residency, Dr. Volfson completed a highly prestigious fellowship in Endourology, Laparoscopy and Robotic Surgery at Hackensack University Medical Center, accredited by the American Endourological Society. During his fellowship training Dr. Volfson received an in depth training in minimally invasive surgery, performing advanced surgical procedures via small "keyhole" incisions using laparoscopic approach as well as a state of the art da Vinci™ Surgical Robotic System.
Dr. Volfson’s clinical interests include bloodless robotic surgery for prostate cancer; minimally invasive robotic and laparoscopic surgery for benign and malignant disease of the kidney, ureter and adrenal gland; as well a cryosurgery (tumor freezing) of kidney tumors.
Dr. Volfson has presented at various national and international urological symposiums. He is the author of a number of scientific papers in peer review journals. He is also an author of the chapters on robotic surgery in the textbook of Urologic Robotic Surgery as well as in the latest edition of Smith's Textbook of Endourology. Dr. Volfson has received several awards from the Society of Laparoscopic Surgeons as well as New York Chapter of American Urological Association.
Dr. Volfson is a member of many professional organizations including American Urologic Association, Endourological Society, and the Society of Laparoscopic Surgeons.
Dr. Volfson is the author of text book chapters on robotic surgery. He has also published and presented scientific papers on robotic and laparoscopic surgery at various national and international symposiums.
